In a recent survey by the Japanese Health Ministry, nearly 80% of Japanese people said they experienced stress in their lives. There are many causes of stress and many ways to relieve stress.
Describe a stressful situation you recently experienced and describe what you did to deal with this stress.

◆解答例◆
A survey by the Japanese Ministry of Health showed nearly 80% of Japanese said they had experienced stress. I had this experience at high school. I was the only student from my junior high school. The other students already had friends from junior high or juku. I couldn’t make friends easily. Then, I saw a program on TV about stress. I learned it is not good to feel stress alone, so I talked to my family. My parents said everyone has some trouble like this. My sister told me how she had made friends at her new school. I followed her advice and soon I made some new friends myself. (110 words)

 次の文章は,アメリカのある新聞の人生相談に寄せられた手紙である。カウンセラーになったつもりで,この相談に対するあなたのアドバイスと,そのように勧める理由をそれぞれ英語で書きなさい。

My seven-year-old son, "Danny," is having trouble with his classmates at school. He has come home three times in the last two months with injuries. Last week, we had to take him to the hospital.
I have talked to his teacher, but the situation has not improved. All she will do is keep Danny away from the other children and make him play in another area.
I feel he is being punished for the bad behavior of others. I asked the teacher if I should speak to the parents of the children in question. She said, "It won't help. Their parents also have problems." If I complain, it could make it worse.
I have encouraged Danny to fight back, even though I know this is not the best way to solve the problem, but it's all I could think of. Today, he came home with a black eye, and I am seriously considering taking it into court. I am afraid for my son's safety.
Danny has asked us to take him out of school and teach him at home. One of his friends is doing this. I have not yet spoken to the principal because I doubt that he would be any more helpful than the teacher. I need some advice.

◆解答例◆
My advice is to talk to the teacher. The reason is that Danny’s problem is happening at school. At school, students are the responsibility of the teachers. Try to meet the teacher rather than talking on the telephone. It is easier to show your feelings face to face. If there is still no improvement, speak to the principal. Tell him or her that Danny had to go to the hospital. Surely, the principal will take some action then. If there is no improvement after speaking to the principal, you can talk to the Board of Education officials.
Taking the matter to court will not help either. Court cases can take months or even years. Danny needs a short-term solution, which can only be provided by the school. If you take him out of school, it is not a true solution. In life, everyone has to deal with unpleasant people. Danny needs to learn this, but he also needs to know that you care about him, no matter what happens. This will help him get through this difficult time. (184 words)
